What is RUNIN?

The RUNIN MSCA ITN The Role of Universities in Innovation and Regional Development started in September 2016. 14 PhD students were trained on how universities contribute to innovation and economic growth in their regions through research seeking to examine how universities fulfil their third mission in relation to regional industry. The researchers explore in their works the range of university engagement with regional firms and institutions.

The RUNIN ITN was set up by six ECIU Universities (Aalborg, Aveiro, Barcelona, Linkoeping, Stavanger and Twente). The seventh university is the University of Lincoln. Stavanger is the coordinator of the RUNIN project. The PhDs have been for a longer period to 2-3 ECIU partner universities during their research and have worked closely with or even partly in organisations tasked with regional development in each of the regions: Regional authorities, regional development agencies, research parks and foundations and think tanks working on innovation and regional development.
