FROM FASHION TO OPEN DATA: WHAT LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE?

At ECIU University, we offer two kinds of learning opportunities. For challenges, we pick real-life problems that communities are struggling with – and engage diverse teams of learners to come up with a possible solution by working closely with international businesses, organizations, and local communities.

Micro-modules are short courses aimed at helping students improve their skills, fill their knowledge gaps, and broaden their perspectives on various subjects – from urban data analytics to gender studies.  

Currently, students can apply to more than 30 upcoming learning opportunities. A challenge from Kaunas University of Technology and an e-commerce giant Vinted hopes to transform the fashion industry and promote sustainability by changing the perception of second-hand clothing. Another challenge, created in collaboration between Sant Joan Despí City Council and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, seeks to promote equal opportunities in the neighborhoods that have welcomed immigrants. Meanwhile, the University of Trento has partnered with Dedagroup and OpenMove to leverage open data and develop creative and practical citizen-centric services with it – making yet another step toward the cities of tomorrow.
