The School of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is seeking applications for an endowed professorship (w3) in the field of quantum inspired and quantum optimization.
Our intention is to establish a group at the intersection between quantum computing and optimization that maps industrial optimization problems to algorithms for state-of-the-art quantum and quantum inspired computing architectures. TUHH and the sponsor Fujitsu are aligned that the goal of the chair is to go beyond mere demonstration, towards the creation of novel and pioneering industrial applications in technical and medical sciences using quantum computing or digital annealing. The successful candidate will have an exceptional record in foundational research and combine their expertise with a strong interest in interdisciplinary work with groups in engineering and logistics at TUHH. Moreover, the new chair will find ample opportunities for cooperation within academia and industry in the field of quantum computing in Hamburg, where important state and federal initiatives have been started.
TUHH particularly also invites applications by younger candidates with a background in either quantum computing or classical optimization, who are highly motivated to strongly commit themselves to the other field, respectively. Applicants with a focus on one or more of the following areas are especially welcome:
The successful candidate is expected to offer courses both at undergraduate and graduate level in the degree programs at TUHH as well as to engage in academic self-governance and further development of the curricula offered by TUHH. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
