On October 1-2, an important milestone was achieved – as the first official meeting of the ECIU University Student Council took place at the University of Stavanger (Norway).

The meeting (that included learner engagement coordinator Ryan Wakamiya and StOr education officer Marija Pedersen) featured representatives from ECIU University student unions, who met to finalise ECIU University Student Council regulations and vote on the new student members for the ECIU Board. The newly elected council and board members include:

  • Eddie Arriaga Flores (Hamburg University of Technology) as the Council’s president and the student board member,
  • Ellen Ivarius Andersson (Linköping University) as the Council’s vice-president,
  • Jakob Vevatne (University of Stavanger) as the student board member,
  • Veerle de Vocht (University of Twente) as the VP Education delegate,
  • And Karl Ormsby (Dublin City University) as the Council’s secretary.

The Council will now focus on establishing the connection between ECIU University and student unions, as well as representing both students and member institutions at the ECIU University level. The plans include further developing the Council’s strategy, strengthening ties with student associations, and creating an alumni group.

‘The newly founded Student Council will seek to ensure that students remain at the forefront of our developing community,’ notes Eddie Arriaga Flores.

This marks a crucial next step for getting all voices heard – and continuing to shape the future of ECIU University together.

The next in-person meeting of the Council is planned for December.
