From July 1-5, students from seven ECIU University member institutions were in Barcelona for the final stages of the latest challenge and micro-module. After months of working online, over 50 students met in person to get a first-hand look at campus activities and work together on a challenge and a micro-module.

The ‘TechFit Challenge: Empowering Healthy and Sporty Lifestyles through Technology’ was introduced by the UAB’s Physical Activity Service (SAF) and the University of Trento’s sports services. Meanwhile the ‘Fortress Europe: Human Rights Violations Against Migrants and Refugees at Europe's Borders’ micro-module was initiated by the UAB’s Solidarity Foundation (FAS).

A welcoming session for the international students took place on the 1st of July. Throughout the week, learners combined group work sessions with visits to campus facilities, such as the Open Labs and the Physical Activity Service, – presenting their proposals on the 5th of July.

The goal of the TechFit challenge was to raise awareness of health and sports habits that could be adopted in the university communities and design a technological solution. 27 students worked together online since May – finally meeting for the final stage of the challenge last week. Together, they discovered university life at the UAB campus and explored the SAF sports facilities to come up with the best solution possible.

Participants of the ‘Fortress Europe’ micro-module also had the opportunity to visit the campus, as they studied the economic and geopolitical interests in border regions. United by a desire to make a difference, 27 international students explored European policies and collective resistance movements against human rights violations affecting migrants and refugees.

This experience brought together learners from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain), University of Stavanger (Norway), University of Trento (Italy), Hamburg University of Technology (Germany), University of Twente (the Netherlands), Lodz University of Technology (Poland), and Linköping University (Sweden).

NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS
