ECIU University member institutions contacted their education ministries and quality assurance to share lessons from the early efforts in piloting with micro-credentials within ECIU University. The resources that ECIU University has developed are helpful for national plans in the micro-credentialing field.
Micro-credentials are an opportunity to fundamentally change universities’ role in transforming learning and are promising means of aligning universities with broader societal perspectives and valued social goals. Micro-credentials are a new way of innovating our higher education by delivering more flexible, stackable and transformative learning experiences for both employees and employers.
The concept of the European Degree has emerged in recent discussions of the European Higher Education Area and can be an opportunity to innovate degrees at a European level. For ECIU University, a European Degree has stackable micro-credentials in its core and is the vehicle for flexible and personalized learning paths for lifelong learning across Europe.
ECIU University needs an agile and trust-based European approach and a real European cooperation on quality assurance and automatic recognition. Furthermore, we need flexibility and funding to foster innovation.
