ECIU strives for a much needed holistic and sustainable investment pathway for European University Alliances after 2027. With a new paper, ECIU provides detailed input to this pathway and which activities need funding.

ECIU is happy with the support from Member States for a sustainable and holistic funding perspective as mentioned in the Council Conclusions adopted last year, and the open dialogue with the European Commission over such a funding pathway.

With its new paper, that can be downloaded below, ECIU provides detailed input for the future investment pathway and activities that need funding. ECIU looks forward to working together with Member States, the EU and stakeholders in order to realise an ambitious funding pathway.

European Universities Alliances, such as ECIU University,  deliver on a bold vision to solve Europe’s challenges. They help overcome Europe’s skills gap, create new knowledge and form a European ecosystem that strengthens collaboration across disciplines, sectors, regions, and makes a connection with citizens. This endeavour is not a project, but a long-term transformational process which needs sustainable and holistic support.

ECIU University is fully committed to the European Universities’ Initiative, and values the collaboration with other European University Alliances. In this respect, ECIU University supports the joint statement of 41 Alliances on the investment pathway, which can also be downloaded below.

The mid-term review of the European multi-annual financial framework in 2024 is an excellent opportunity to design a predictable, sustainable and holistic approach to funding the European University Alliances. This approach should be based on a long-term perspective, and it should cover all four missions of universities: innovation and societal engagement, as well as education and research.
