The main tangible artefact of our project will be a CBL MINOR, a co-created distributed minor based on CBL, composed of online MICRO-MODULES, BLENDED CBL PROJECTS and CBL INTERNSHIP and CBL THESIS.
Micro-modules will be offered online and will provide students with the fundamental knowledge and entrepreneurial skills as well as interpersonal/cultural skills to carry out responsible I&E challenge projects. These projects will be co-created with innovation ecosystem stakeholders and will focus on tackling complex societal challenges to propose innovative solutions for the commercialisation of technological and social innovations. Finally, we will involve students and external stakeholders in a novel way of designing and implementing CBL internships and thesis, where groups of students will explore together more complex real-life problems near the end of their master curriculum.
Whereas individual HEIs are currently offering a number of learning opportunities (challenge projects and micro modules) to their local learners, a more STRUCTURAL, STRATEGIC AND PAN-EUROPEAN APPROACH is needed where joint offers and clear pathways are offered to all European learners.
The project builds upon existing opportunities and experiences (such as Erasmus+ mobility schemes as well as European Alliances piloting activities such as the ECIU University Alliance) to design, pilot, monitor and evaluate a BLENDED INTERDISCIPLINARY AND INTERSECTORAL CBL MINOR jointly created by the participating HEIs and targeting master students (first focus on Engineering and Economics students) involving them in tackling real life societal challenges.
Our second target group are teachers and non-academic staff through the development of Community of Practice (CoP), ready to be extended to other interested European HEIs, to support scaling and replication according to our exploitation plan.
The main motivation of our project aligns with the guidelines from the Council of the European Union (2021) to enable students and potentially life-long learners, to improve their I&E skills and competences to address the needs of a fast-changing society and labour market.
Access to flexible, learner-centred active teaching and responsible learning is crucial and we will therefore work in the consortium to enhance EU-learners’ ability to work interculturally, interdisciplinarily (over the subject borders) and multidisciplinarily (several disciplines). This way of working is termed “cross-disciplinary” and has been shown to boost innovativeness. We also see the importance of an inter-sectoral setting, where all actors in regional innovation systems become engaged in the design and execution of education pathways, increasing civic engagement and aiming to solve societal challenges in a human-centric way.
JUMP will focus on three main needs and related threads:
Through an innovative mobility scheme (called Challenge-Based Learning Minor), JUMP will enhance students’ responsible innovation and entrepreneurial (I&E) skills, emphasizing holistic cross-disciplinary learning, inter-sectoral participatory processes, and inclusivity for a sustainable Europe.
The CBL Minor comprises online micro-modules, blended challenge projects, internships, and theses. It advocates for a structured European approach and leverages existing programs to scale this initiative.
Our overarching goal (O1) is to support and enhance students' I&E and transversal skills by co-solving societal real-life challenges in international cross-disciplinary teams and creating a space for dialogue with and among quadruple-helix actors.
O2. Co-creating a distributed CBL Minor in responsible I&E, composed of online micro-modules, blended CBL projects and CBL internship and thesis.
O3. Develop a portfolio of distributed online micro-modules
O4. Pilot new types of CBL internships and thesis
O5. Reinforcing the Erasmus+ programme as a scheme that fosters structural cooperation between European HEIs and external stakeholders facilitated by blended learning approaches that train for 21st century skills.

Creating a structural CBL Minor, developing online micro-modules, piloting co-created challenges projects, CBL internships/theses, and reinforcing the Erasmus+program to promote cooperation between European HEIs and stakeholders to equip students with responsible I&E skills.
Facilitating dialogue among quadruple-helix actors to solve societal challenges via international, cross-disciplinary student teams trained in responsible I&E and transversal skills.
