About the conference

The ECIU University research strategy is aimed at addressing complex research challenges related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11): “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. In the ECIU University research is challenge-based, use-inspired and conducted in deep collaborative teams of universities, NGOs, industry, government, and civil society with the overall goal of driving societal impact.

ECIU University Research Conference aims to move beyond traditional conference structures and embody a challenge-based approach by providing an interactive forum for discussing common challenges, forging partnerships of societal stakeholders, and contributing to the implementation of shared policies to enhance the resilience of cities and society. This event will bring together societal stakeholders to showcase challenge-based research outcomes, share best practices of innovative research approaches, and explore/initiate potential collaborations for common solutions to societal issues.

It is a great pleasure to present the Book of Abstracts for the ECIU University Research Conference.

In this Book of Abstracts, you will find research summaries, representing a novel research approach in Energy and Sustainability, Circular Economy, Transport and Mobility, Resilient Communities and Citizen Science. These summaries offer a glimpse of challenge-based research presented during the conference, showcasing the dedication and hard work of our participants.

We encourage you to explore the abstracts in this book, attend the various sessions, and engage in meaningful discussions with your fellow participants.

ECIU University Research Conference Grant

ECIU University Research Conference aims to be a meeting point where ECIU University researchers and stakeholders from different territories meet and network in common challenges and solutions. We  believe that involvement of Quadruple Helix (4H) to this conference is very important to reach its' goal.

To encourage attendance at ECIU University Research Conference, especially early-stage researchers, each ECIU member University will support:

  • conference participation of 2 PhD students (R1) (grants of 550 euro/each for accommodation and travel);
  • conference participation of at least 3 researchers (R2-R4) (grants of 550 euro/each for accommodation and travel). Further external fundings might be assigned/allocated depending on each partner's availability.

Participants have to apply for ECIU University Research Conference grants till the 6th of June, 2023.

The application for the grants will be managed by each ECIU member University. You can apply for the grant as participant, session challenge provider and or poster presenter.   • Registered applicants of institution;
  • Ranking list of successful proposals and posters by institution.

Based on this information and the list of participants who applied for the ECIU University Research Conference grant, each ECIU member University will allocate the grants under the following criteria:

A.  Priority will be given to applicants who were selected to participate in a challenge or poster sessions in terms of ranking and within the limits of the available grants.

B.   If there are no grants for applicants who were selected to participate in a challenge or poster sessions , each ECIU member University will be free to allocate the funding, but always prioritizing gender balance and the diversity of career profiles of the researcher.

Institutional contact points will inform the applicants about the resolution of the grants and the next steps until the 3rd
